Pulmonary Function Testing Services
Complete Pulmonary Function Test
A complete PFT provides a more comprehensive evaluation of how your lungs are functioning.
Depending on the testing performed, it can measure:
- How much air your lungs can hold
- How quickly you can move air in and out
- How effectively your lungs are working
Complete pulmonary function testing can provide your healthcare provider with a more detailed picture of your overall lung function.
Pre/Post Bronchodilator PFT
A pre/post PFT measures your lung function before and after you use a prescribed bronchodilator medication.
Comparing the results can help your healthcare provider determine whether your breathing improves with medication.
This testing may be used when evaluating symptoms such as:
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing
- Persistent cough
- Chest tightness
- Suspected asthma or other respiratory conditions
Pre/Post PFT and Complete PFT with DLCO
Some patients may need more comprehensive testing, including pre- and post-bronchodilator testing along with a complete PFT and DLCO.
A DLCO (diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide) test measures how effectively oxygen and other gases move from the lungs into the bloodstream.
DLCO testing can provide additional information when evaluating certain respiratory conditions and unexplained shortness of breath.
